Fake Emails from Whom?

It's been over four months since we launched our website, and we've been receiving numerous fake emails.

These fake emails typically consist of a single sentence, such as "Are you the owner of this website?" or something similar with no official name of a sender. Please refrain from sending such emails that waste our time.

Who is sending these peculiar anonymous "one line" emails to us? I actually responded to one of these emails, confirming that I'm the owner of the site, and have never heard back from the sender since then.
